Assistant Designer - Karl Lagerfeld Paris

Bass, among others, is seeking an assistant designer to join its team.

The Assistant designer will support the Designer on the daily functions within the Karl Lagerfeld design team, actively participating in all aspect of the design and development process.


  • Actively participate in the full design and development for the Seasonal Cut /sew product design for Karl Lagerfeld Paris Brand.
  • Partner with the Designer on seasonal technical packages and garment details/ information. Build the technical packages ensuring complete information for garment execution by the factory (including all needed layouts/ diagrams to illustrate garment information/clarity).
  • Issue packages to seasonal/designated factories via email. 
  • Prepare and send any needed support garments /material for factories to properly develop Seasonal garments. 
  • Responsible for upholding the design/ brand integrity, high quality reflected through the entire design/development process. 
  • Partner daily with Designer for review /daily touch base of emails/ information and/or submits to confirm appropriate direction and reply. Proactively prepare for review with needed materials and thought out replies. Manage daily communication and replies timely and appropriately with Global factories, and internal partners.
  • Assist in seasonal design research- (vintage/ magazine/ on line/ store visits. 
  • Sketch brand appropriate design ideas.
  • Assist in preparing all design boards for meeting with Creative Director. *Sketch, Mood, Inspirational.
  • Assist in research of new trim ideas. Once approved, prepare complete development packages including technical layouts. Partner with the Global office Trim team in development process to approval. Understand pricing perimeters and obtain costing details appropriately.
  • Prepare all needed layouts/diagrams as needed for any design package, artwork, trims advising all information needed on detail/trim sizes for accurate development. 
  • Maintain neat and organized information of books, design area, garment library.
  • Prepare Designer for fittings: review daily fit list- pull needed samples, and any support information needed.
  • Review fabric board cards, ensure colors requested are accurate, maintain updates through design meetings.
  • Lead the seasonal arrivals for all SRS samples: check garments are received as technically anticipated, hang up, pin , and prepare all garments for showroom use. Discuss any changes, alterations as needed with Designer. Oversee the changes/ alterations needed, understanding timeline. *Proactively follow up on all outstanding samples, ensuring factory is adhering to milestone dates. Communicate updates on a timely manner with Designer to discuss any alternate change of plans.
  • Coordinate any/all corrections to samples, procuring needed materials, trims. Partner with internal areas, or outside resources directing proper change, or new garment as needed.
  • Adept to the working place, handle multiple projects, juggle priorities in an organized and flexible manner.
  • Be an active participant in any conversation, either in conversational, or actively, and accurately taking notes to ensure correct action on moving information or command forward. Ask questions to clarify any concern or question.



  • 2-3 years of industry experience preferred.
  • Cut/sew background/ interest preferred.
  • College Graduate- from a design school.
