Reporting to the VP of Design & Merchandising for Dresses, the Associate Designer, Cocktail Dresses & Evening Gowns will support the VP and design team to create and design a competitive eveningwear product line that strikes a balance between relevant commercial product and brand right emotional fashion that will collectively grow the business according to the Vince Camuto and Jessica Howard brand strategic and financial objectives. It is an exciting time to be a part of building a fashion relevant, brand aesthetic with a sharp viewpoint aimed at delighting the Eveningwear customer.

Responsibilities

  • Research trends and contribute sketches to Vince Camuto and Jessica Howard social lines
  • Assist in design development through magazine tears, store visits, vintage as well as online research
  • Research and design beading/embellishment layouts
  • Create detailed and accurate flats by hand
  • Create proportion lines on dress form and convey this information in factory tech packs
  • Generate tech packs and update cost cards including inspection of junior team members work for accuracy
  • Adhere to Time and Action calendar: Maintain regular communication with overseas and domestic samplerooms to track all sample development, answer general questions and ensure line review and market deadlines are met
  • Maintain constant communication with sales and production teams in order to ensure line is priced quickly and accurately and that special requests are met with speed and accuracy
  • Prepare line for showroom: accurate, orderly linebook, showroom preparation, model dressing
  • Assist in fabricating new and repeat styles, concept and color palette creation every season
  • Maintain fabric library, track sample yardage

Qualifications

Success Profile:

  • 3 to 5 years of experience at the assistant/associate designer level in women's SPECIAL OCCASION DRESSES: cocktail dresses and evening gowns including DRAPING, embellishment and BEADING, required
  • Dress-specific draping skills, required
  • Beading and embellishment experience including technical layouts for execution by Asian factories, required
  • Expert understanding of design development process with HAND SKETCHING technical skill proficiency
  • Demonstrated dress-specific ability to hand sketch design and technical drawings, required
  • Critical ability to execute technical design packages with translation of all details for factories in ASIA
  • Strong fashion sense, taste level and critical ability to identify and interpret trends and translate runway aesthetic to commercial success
  • Keen attention to detail, strong organizational skills and ability to take independent action to achieve objectives
  • Calendar savvy with proven ability to manage competing priorities and relationships to meet deadlines
  • Confident, capable, highly effective written/verbal communication, teaming and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to work on teams and lead by example

Educational Background

Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Design with a concentration in Eveningwear, Social Occasion, Dresses, Draping, Couture, preferred or equivalent work experience
